The Florence Arms is a gastro pub in Portsmouth which is owned by The Mercer Collection, a group of boutique hotels in Southsea.
Requirement
After acquisition in 2016, The Mercer Collection wanted to refresh the pub’s interior to give it a new look as they prepared for opening to new and existing customers.
The space had to be stylish and in keeping with The Mercer Collection brand and be a comfortable and enjoyable space for all.
The client required new banquette seats, chairs, reupholstery and high chairs and tables. We also assisted them with the furniture layout and design.
What we did
The layout of the room had bench seating lining the walls, these were styled with high square pleated backs and black laminate plinths. For the cream seat cushions, we used Sekers Capella fabric, a hardwearing mock-hide style fabric. This was complemented by the Covertex ORC back, which is a silver textured herringbone chenille.
In the bar areas we built plain back booth seating to create a more chilled-out social space. The seat cushions had the same mock-hide fabric as the benches, but to differentiate it from the dining area we used the Sekers Byblos range in Silver Mink for the backs. The booths were accompanied by oak veneered cappings with silver radiator grilles.
The colour of the banquette seating complemented the neutral tones found throughout the pub. But, for a welcome contrast, we upholstered the chairs in a Harlequin Momentum velvet blue that stayed in keeping with the featured blue woodwork and blinds.

Result
The finished interior looks stunning and furniture perfectly complements the colour and tone of the pub. It merges the soft, luxury hotel-dining aesthetic with the everyday comfort of your local pub.
