Hām is a bistro in West Hampstead, London. A local restaurant priding itself on being part of the neighbourhood, they serve modern British dishes with a warm, welcoming atmosphere for all to enjoy.
Requirement
Rose, the owner, got in touch with us to enquire about banquette seating for their restaurant. It was important that the style was in keeping with the friendly, neighbourly vibe that they were trying to create.
After initially planning the design for the seating, we were then involved in offering layout advice. We were able to advise on how they could make the most of the space so there was sufficient room for walkways and the bar. We offer this as a free service on all projects.
What we did
The finished interior is simply stunning and in keeping with the brand. The blue upholstery for the banquette seating complemented perfectly the light wooden flooring and cream walls. The banquette seating was our vertical panel back design, with removable sprung seats. While it was mostly wall benches, we did add curved seating near the kitchen to create an enclosed and intimate space. The plinths had plug sockets added to the bases, which catered to Hām’s customer base, and adding to the relaxed vibe as a local food stop. The plinths were painted in Farrow Ball, Modern Eggshell, Oxford Stone & Joa’s White, which went with the light cream colours of the loose seating and walls, and provides a welcome contrast to the bold blues of the seats.
To add a subtle twist to the space, we used both real leather and fabric for the seating. This provided an edgy contrast that added to the restaurant’s charm. The leather was Sunbury Torino Pool, while the fabric was Harlequin Momentum Velvets Peacock.
Sunbury is a reputable supplier of leathers for the contract furniture industry. Their products are made to withstand the everyday use of the hospitality industry.
Harlequin is a premier fashion designer that supplies eclectic fabrics with a bold and eye-catching appeal.
An additional bespoke feature that we implemented was the curves to the top covers of the backs. This added a touch of character to the seats that complemented the vertical panels perfectly.
Result
The finished design looks incredible and combines a designer-aesthetic with the warmth and comfort that customers want.
Rose and the team at Hām were extremely happy with the level of service that we provided and the quality of the banquette seating.
